Is Wispdf really free?
Yes. 33 of our 63 tools are free with no limits and no account, including merge, split, compress, sign and the image converters. Tools that need our servers have a free daily allowance of 2 tasks, or 3 with a free account. AI tools come with 1 free AI task a day, or 30 credits a day with a free account. Pro is $8.25 a month billed yearly for people who want more.
How can a PDF tool work without uploading my file?
Modern browsers can run real software, not just show web pages. Wispdf sends the tool to your browser instead of sending your file to us, so the work happens on your own computer or phone. It still works if you turn off your Wi-Fi after the page loads, which is an easy way to check.
Which tools upload my file?
Every tool carries a label before you start. 33 run only on your device. 6 run on your device first and ask before using our servers for very large or tricky files. 11, such as PDF to Word, run on our servers because they need heavier software. 13 use AI and send the text of your document, not the file.
What happens to files that go to your servers?
They are encrypted on the way, processed, and deleted within an hour. Nobody looks at them. Request signatures is the one exception: a document waiting for signatures stays until everyone has signed, because the signers need to open it.
Do you use my documents to train AI?
No. AI tools send the extracted text of your document to our AI model, and that text is never used to train models. If you use AI without an account, the chat is deleted after 24 hours. With an account, you choose how long chats are kept and can delete them any time.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Wispdf works in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android. Open a tool, choose your file and go. On-device tools can handle around 1 GB of PDFs on a typical computer, and a bit less on a phone.
